The retired pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church details his trip to the middle east in the book's first five chapters,, and discusses the types of ministers - fundamentalist, modernists and progressives - and the importance of the social gospel which he himself espouses. Powell was an early leader of the NAACP and National Urban League, and he promoted the notion of an institutional church that offered social as well as spiritual services to the community.

Hardcover, black cloth lettered on spine in pale green, no dust-jacket. 217pp., Small news article pasted on verso of half-title entitled: "Harlem Center Dedication Honors Rev. Dr.p[owell, 87". Small pencil notation lists date as July 2, 1951. [In 1937, Powell retired as pastor and his son, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. replaced him on November 1. Adam Clayton Powell, Sr. died in New York City, on June 12, 1953 at the age of 88.] Newpaper article has browned and affected title-page, causing browning. In the books preface the author lists his two reasons for writing the present volume: to give readers a human [read unvarnished] picture of Palestine and to publicly raise a voice against the world's rising tide of anti-semitism.
