About This Item

New York: Sotheby Parke Bernet, 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Oblong 4to 11" - 13" tall. John Tancock provides the Foreword to this sumptuously designed and produced volume. Sterling condition hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, tight binding, being of burgundy-colored cloth, and with gilt lettering to cover and to spine, with and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only very minor wear, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. The highlights of the auction include paintings, drawings and sculpture from the likes of Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Massimo Campigli, Joseph Cornell, Alberto Giacometti,Arshile Gorky, Marcel Duchamp, Victor Brauner and Alexander Calder. Thirty-five artists in all are represented here, and some of their best-known pieces, including "Heavenly and Earthly Love," "The Sun in 1900," "Summer Night in Arizona," and "Moon Mad," all by Ernst; "The Pirate I" and "The Pirate II" by Arshile Gorky, and my favorite, "The Intriguing Woman" by Konrad Klapheck. Unpaginated, but 163 glossy, full-color reproductions printed on fine paper.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
