Published in conjunction with the Pucker Art Gallery in Boston, this is a memoir of the Jewish painter who was born in Vilna in 1933, had his first exhibition in 1943 in the Vilna ghetto, survived a forced labor camp, and emigrated to Israel after the war, in his foreword, the Israeli novelist Amos Oz writes, "I regard Samuel Bak as one of the great painters of the twentieth century. There are few artists who have so successfully represented the mad cruelty of our era....;" includes many photographs and reproductions; inscribed, signed, and dated by the author on the half-title page (dark green quarter cloth with gold lettering & yellow textured paper-covered boards; pictorial cover with painting on the front, author's photo on the back; a bright, clean, tight copy; this is a large, heavy volume that can only be shipped by domestic media mail without additional shipping charge).
