London: Day & Son, 1891. First edition. Hardcover. Quarter brown morocco spine, leather corners, gilt decorated front cover lettering. Aeg. Very good. Lloyd, William Whitelock. Unpaginated. Oblong folio. 30 x 40.5 cm. Edition de Luxe. copy 284 of 300 signed by Lloyd. One map, chromolithograph frontispiece, title page, 22 chromolithograph plates (with hand-coloring) and accompanying black and white sketches by Lloyd. Published for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company illustrating life aboard a P&O voyage from London, through the Mediterranean, via the Suez Canal with views of Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said, Suez Canal, and Red Sea. The author served with the South Wales Borderers in the Zulu War,1879, left the Army in 1882 to pursue a career as an illustrator. Wear to corners and extremities, three centimeter loss at backstrip head, interior fresh and bright.
