London: Oxford University Press 1951. (Hardcover) 888pp. Very good in very good dust jacket. Grey-blue cloth with gilt lettering and crested spine. Top edge stained blue, contributor's index, bibliography. The spine is lightly edgeworn at the top and bottom, the dust jacket is soiled along the spine and chipped at the top and bottom of the spine with a 3-1 / 2 by 2 inch chip to the bottom corner of the back panel and a previous owner's inscription on the front free endpaper. "As a one-volume encyclopaedia of the theatre in all countries and all periods this work can claim to be unique. It has been compiled by a team of more than fifty experts under the general direction of Miss Phyllis Hartnool, who has herself been responsible for the numerous articles dealing with the French theatre and for many other entries".
