New York: Random House, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Signed. First edition stated, first printing. Signed by the author on the front free end paper and inscribed to previous owner in the year of publication. Near Fine with light dust soiling, light foxing to cloth, faint toning to spine cloth. Offsetting to end sheets from binder's glue at gutters. In a Very Good second state dust jacket with price and publisher's bookmark intact. The dust jacket is a bit edge worn with loss at the crown and smaller losses at corners, light soiling, several scratches to the spine panel and tape repairs to verso with small areas of tackiness showing through to the printed recto. Served as the basis for the film bearing the same name, starring Henry Fonda and Harry Morgan.
