Film & television producer Thomas Lowell, Jr. (1923 - 2016) and his father, the accomplished writer, broadcaster & traveller Thomas Lowell, Sr. (1892 - 1981) were invited by the Tibetan government to make a film there in 1949 (year Communist Mao Tse-tung took control over the China mainland) to alert the world of Tibetan plight. The trip spanned some 400 days; the resultant film (Expedition to Lhasa, Tibet), was later aired by CBS. Book records the expedition; an extraordinary trip, often by foot, and, of a Tibet past. The Dalai Lama bestowed the International Campaign for Tibet's Light of Truth Award on Lowell Jr. in 2005. Illustrated with b/w and color photos. Strong copy despite flaws.
