H. L. Baldwin Company, Minneapolis, 1908; First Edition; 8vo, 770 pages; maroon cloth; gilt titles; decorative end papers; photo illustrated. Fascinating history of our national government, U.S. Presidents and their wives, and our nation’s capital, with detailed accounts of some of the roles ably played by women. Written by wife of General, later U.S. Senator, John A. Logan (1826-1886). Mrs. Logan came to Washington with her husband for the first time in 1858, and remained there as a key insider for over 30 years. Profusely illustrated with b&w photos, many made expressly for the book. Frontispiece portrait plate of Mrs. Logan, with guard tissue. Very Good Plus, clean, crisp, bright, binding tight, sound and square, with some minor cloth wear at the lowermost spine extremity. A detailed first hand account of the inside workings of every department of our National Government, containing a wealth of fascinating and useful information. A book which serves as a reminder of what our national government used to be: open, honest, and dedicated to public service, in marked contrast to our government today.
