Fabulous vintage Dick and Jane - an oversized folio measuring approximately 19 x 24-1/2", still in original presentation covers with attached board-stands. Three ring internal binder (as issued) with each large folio of four pictures bound together with reinforced (again, as issued) leatherette spines. Contains all 6 "stories" (a total of 24 large pictures) from the We Look and See, the beginning pre-Primer. It would appear that pages 1 and 2 - likely introduction notes, are missing - but ALL THE MARVELLOUS 1950s pages are there. And glorious they are! Clean, bright and fresh, each page has no marks whatsoever - perhaps a touch of age toning and faint signs of handling along outer page edges, otherwise truly fine. The leatherette binder/presentation folder is still in reasonable condition and has the original paste-down label on front. This is the very rare early BIG BOOK, containing stories from the first pre-primer, WE LOOK AND SEE. In this edition, Sally is named Baby, and the illustrations are completely different from those in the NEW BIG BOOK. The display-size images are wonderful full color illustrations of Dick, Jane, Baby, Puff, Spot, and Tim. A compelling artifact of mid-century US literacy education. 26'' x 19''. Original blue cloth with printed paper label and metal rivets along top edge. Leaves removable from interior binder as issued. Illustrated throughout in color. [3]-30 pages (no "first" leaf as issued). Some marginal toning and light signs of use, shadows from removed tape on one page, moderate wear to binding. Lacking front easel; rear easel intact.

Rings and handles at the head of the boards allow the book to be hung up. Fold out stands at the front and back. Three ring binding within allows pages to be removed. Pages are clean. This book comes with a pocket chart. Chart is 29" x 34", 73 x 86 cm. Designed to hold word, phrase and picture cards. Chart has two holes and a handle at the top of it so the chart can be hung up. This set includes a complete set of fourteen 12" x 7". 30 x 17 cm. picture cards created to be used with the chart. The cards have writing in crayon and ink on them, but are not bent or folded in any way. A unit set of basic primer cards is also included. The cards are contained in a blue cloth box with a yellow label on the cover. An index inside the lid of the box gives a list of the included word and phrase cards.
