The text is illustrated with numerous colour and black-and-white reproductions of paintings by various British artists from the Paul Mellon collection housed at Yale University in Connecticut. Colour illustrated front cover with black titles to the front panel and backstrip. A catalogue that was produced for the travelling exhibition of English painting from Yale University, as bequeathed by Paul Mellon. The exhibition ran at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, May 2 to July 5, 1998, Queensland Art Gallery, 16 July to September 6, 1998, and Art Gallery of South Australia, September 17 to November 15, 1998.
