About This Item
1943. Hardcover. LANGUAGE Fair No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book in Portuguese. Translator from French by de Casimiro Fernandes. It appears that the original paperback novels have been rebound in marblized boards with leather spines and corners on the boards. Leather at top of spine is cracked and open for volume 1. The back cover for voulume 11 is off (loose) and has a crack between spine and front cover (but it still is attached). The original paperback covers have thus been protected by the rebinding. The binding of the pages is tight and the pages are clean. Paper has aged. Volume 1 has 721 pages. Volume II has 853 pages. Synopsis: The Thibaults (Les Thibault in French) is a multi-volume roman fleuve by Roger Martin du Gard, which follows the fortunes of two brothers, Antoine and Jacques Thibault, from their upbringing in a prosperous Catholic bourgeois family to the end of the First World War. The author was awarded the 1937 Nobel Prize for Literature largely on the basis of this novel sequence.
