Kirkwall, Orkney: The Orkney Press, 1995. Some creasing to edges of unclipped dustwrapper, a little bit of old water-marking to bottom edge of black boards, a mark on f/ep where an address label (?) has been removed, a bit of corrugation to the pages where water has been spilt, but with no damage to the text, but otherwise a not-too-bad copy of this hard-cover book. A collection of pieces on Orkney folklore originally written in the late nineteenth century, including traditional Wedding and Funeral customs, tales of the Spanish Armada in Orkney, Seal-Folk (seals who changed into human form), an old long ballad on the same topic "The Play of the Lathie Odivere", and more. This is number 462 of 500 hardback copies, signed by Howie Firth who wrote the introduction, Tom Muir who wrote a chapter on the life of the author, and by Bryce Wilson who did the illustrations. 196pp, b&w drawings at chapter heads.. Signed by Illustrator. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. Illus. by Wilson, Bryce. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
