About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1968. Limited edition of 500 signed copies. Hardcover book bound in the publisher's original papered boards and cloth spine housed within a cardboard slipcase. 24 cm. 86 pages. Robert Graves's attempt at a more literal, austere translation of the famous 12th century Persian poem. Graves worked from an "original" manuscript provided and annotated by the Sufi poet and scholar Omar Ali-Shah that was purportedly held within his family for over 800 years. This copy has been hand signed by Robert Graves and Omar Ali-Shah on the limitations page at the front of the book. A signed presentation slip from the publisher is also affixed to this page. The book is in near fine condition. No other ownership marks/writing present within. Hinges tight, interior pages bright. The tail of the book's spine is bumped. Light edge wear/bumping, toning to the slipcase. Scarce.
