Complete in original binding except for the gigantic map which is available in full size color thick glossy paper professional reproduction ($25 extra if desired). Pagination: 583 pages, 22 plates, 4 maps, all blanks present. Includes fascinating pencil diagram of oil rig on back of map. Oil rig drawing titled "Sheffield Oil Company. Warren(?), Co., Pa." That pencil drawing is the only interior writing or ownership marking anywhere in the book. Condition is a mixed bag. Original half leather marbled boards show heavy wear and looks like they were professionally rehinged in the distant past. Binding is sound. Pages show moderate to heavy toning and foxing. Some plates have weird 'dot' foxing I have never seen elsewhere (see scan). Marbled endpapers. A nice well maintained copy suitable for reading and research with a cool drawing. This is a very strange work indeed and I believe its a first draft that is sent to the Author/owner before it is published proper and apparently only one book was published so there are two copies, the main published work and this first draft I have. I have never seen another in all my years of book collecting.
It is purportedly written by Dr. John Dee and was put together from old manuscripts and papers found in a house in Kent, England.
I have photographed the Foreword which explains this so you can read it yourself.
The work is in Near Fine condition, crisp white pages and excellent binding.
The following is from the title page: "With many additional notes of interest to the Scholar and Alchymist concerning the endeavours and methods devised by Dr. John Dee and Edward Talbot or ,Kelly, for the summoning to their Command & Will of Diverse Spiritual Beings, comprising a hitherto unknown and lost book in which are most fully described "The Lords Of Tartarus"
Just in case you haven't guessed yet this work deals with summoning Demons and Satan himself. I would like to advise the purchaser not to put into practice the conjuring and incantations within this work as it could be quite deadly.
You might ask what is a Freemason doing with such a book, well the answer is simple, 'No Thy Enemy"

All over, a very nice impression. Inscribed by Copland in 1953 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Millard Thomson, a composer and professor at Brown. Thomson's bookplate opposite inscription. The book preserves the six Charles Eliot Norton Lectures delivered at Harvard University in May 1952 substantially as they were given. The first three lectures treat the musical mind as listener, interpreter, or creator; the remaining three discuss "the imaginative mind in the music of Europe and America."

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
