Washington DC: Gales and Seaton, 1835. Wraps. Very good condition. Personal copy of New Yorker Maltby Gelston, the son of NY Assemblyman and Senator David Gelston. Maltby Gelston married Mary Jones; her sister was married to New York Governor DeWitt Clinton.
Maltby Gelston's father David (1744 - 1828) represented New York at the New York Provincial Congress and at the New York State Constitutional Convention. David Gelston worked closely with Aaron Burr, and was a member of the NY Assembly from Suffolk County. He became speaker of the Assembly. He was later a delegate to the last session of the Continental Congress, a New York Senator, and Collector of the Port of New York.
This work is a short biography of the recently deceased Marquis de Lafayette. Original printed paper wrappers. 8vo, 94pp, Appendix. Slight vertical creasing, corners slightly ruffled, faint damp stain top edges not affecting text. OCLC: 470122408.
