About This Item

Title continues: "An Account of Lhasa and the Country and People of Central Tibet and of the Progress of the Mission sent there by the English Government in the Year 1903-4." Perceval Landon (1868-1927) was an English writer and journalist, now best remembered for his classic ghost story "Thurnley Abbey." In 1903–1904, he was special correspondent of the London Times on a British military expedition to Lhasa, Tibet - hence this book. The impressed swastika on the front cover is an eastern symbol for life, the four swirling arms representing the four directions of the universe.
