Very Good. Hardcover. 8vo 8" - 9" tall; [Manuscripts][Business]General Store Ledger. [Ontario, New York]: 1855-1857 with some lawsuit notations dated 1862. 12 ½” x 8”. Full leather journal book. Approximately 230 pages of manuscript including name index. TextLikely a general store ledger from a thriving business. Though most of the entries are “to merchandise” closer inspection reveals items such as mittens, candy, butter, and dried fruit. There are also several pages listing judgments taken against some of the customers. We can place the ledger in upstate New York due to the name of Theron Gates, who is listed in the 1850 census, along with William F. Gates who is also in the ledger. They lived in Ontario, in Wayne County. Alanson Goodenow, another debtor, was also a resident of Wayne in 1850 as was Zelotus Pratt and Rufus Sweeting. .
