Marbled endpapers. The text is illustrated with copious colour and black-and-white photographs, colour and black-and-white illustrations and maps. Brown faux leather, ornately decorated, covers with a picture showing part reproduction of Charles Schreybogels' painting "Protecting the Emigrants", which has been pasted on post reduction. Gilt coloured titles to the backstrip along with four raised bands to the top edge and lower edge of the backstrip. A history of soldiers of the American West. Of the Indian wars, forts, personalities and battles won and lost. Part of The Old West series. Rubbing to the book corners. Light browning and foxing to the text block edges. A previous owner has dogeared some of the corners throughout the text. The illustrated cameo on the front panel has some rubbing. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. IV, 5-240 pages,.
