M C Peck & Son, Hull, 1884. Revised Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. Half-leather binding, wear to corners, banded spine with gilt lettering (probably a replacement). Marbled end-papers with small bookplate of Stephen Bryant on inside of front cover. Sound binding, inner hinges are strengthened/repaired, Index pages are taped at gutter with resulting discolouration on reverse pages at gutter edges. Signature of author on frontis portrait may be printed, light foxing to prelims. Clean pages and plates. Publication date on title-page given as 1884 but content in Second Appendix includes plates up to 1887, so a more likely publication date of 1887/1888 with these revisions. The very scarce first edition of Thomas Tindall Wildridge's beautifully illustrated historical study of Hull in the nineteenth century. The first edition of this very scarce work.The work of Hull based librarian, antiquarian, artist and author Thomas Tindall Wildridge.Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and seventy-two plates. Collated, complete.Wildridge's work includes descriptive and historical notices, and provides portraits and biographical notices of local Hull worthies.A second volume of this work was never published, despite Wildridge's desire to publish a second volume. This first volume was reissued in 1889. In a half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail, with back strip lightly age toned. Small hole in cloth to rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with instances of spotting throughout. Very Good Indeed
