About This Item
London: Chez Treuttel Et Wurtz Libraires , 1820. Second Edition. Leather. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 8 volumes of a 16 volume set. There is a preface to the second edition so its assumed they are from the second edition. This set contains volumes III, IV, VIII, IX, X, XI, XV, XVI. Gilt embossed design to the spines and tramlines to the boards. Marbled front and rear end papers, paste downs and fore edges. The front leather boards have become detached from all but volume III. Complete loss of the spine strip to volume VIII, X, and half of the leather spine strip loss to volumes IV, XI, and XVI. Back boards also detached to volumes IX and X. Rubbing to the edges of the boards and a few corners are lightly bumped. Some soiling to the upper fore edges. Despite their externally fair condition with their obvious flaws, internally these books have survived very well. They are essentailly clean and tight with mostly light and quite occasional scatterd foxing. A good partial set of this work very suitable for rebinding.
