Washington DC: National Park Service/ Dept. Of the Interior, 1961. Reprint 1961. . Soft cover. Fine. Fine/1st ed. Prehistory Indian Mounds in Macon Georgia. Work on the mounds started in 1933 by the Civil Works Administration, with most of the systematic exploration of the mounds and surrounding sites actually being performed by the Works Progess Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps. The city of Macon purchased the land and gave it to the national government which declared the area the Oculgee National Monument in 1936. 58 pages, with maps of the town layout, illustrations, b&w photos of artifacts and the excavation area. Book is clean and tightly stapled, with excellent color to the cover, no soiling or marking to interior or exterior.
