Thomas Dobson, 1808. 1st edition. Hardcover. Fair/No Dust Jacket. Complete title: OBSERVATIONS ON THE MEANS OF PRESERVING THE HEALTH OF SOLDIERS AND SAILORS AND ON THE DUTIES OF THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ARMY AND NAVY, WITH REMARKS ON HOSPITALS AND THEIR INTERNAL ARRANGEMENT. Tired brown leather boards with title barely legible in gold on spine. Boards are rubbed, bumped and frayed throughout. Two inch separation at upper front hinge. One inch separation at upper rear hinge, as well as a 2 inch separation at lower rear hinge. First paste down is chipped and has previous owner pencil notations. Front hinge is cracked. First two inches of first free endpaper, which has soil/foxing and small holes, is loose. The rest of the text pages are intact. Second free endpaper has previous owner's name. Rear free endpapers have previous owner's notations as well. Text pages are foxed throughout. Errata slip glued to blank verso of dedication page. Three fold outs are present. Two are completely intact, and the other has a large tear, but all of the paper is present and is completely legible. In the rear of this 336 page book is a 14 page pamphlet entitled DIRECTIONS FOR PRESERVING THE HEALTH OF SOLDIERS, ADDRESSED TO THE OFFICERS OF THE ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES, BY BENJAMIN RUSH, M.D. , THEN PHYSICIAN GENERAL TO THE MILITARY HOSPITALS OF THE UNITED STATES. PUBLISHED BY ORDER OF THE BOARD OF WAR. After this pamphlet is a two page advertisement for Thomas Dobson's Catalogue of Medical Books 1808.
