About This Item

Fort McClellan AL / Ft.Benning GA: U.S. Army Chemical Corps School, 1959. Paperback. iii, 115p., text reproduced from typed mss, illustrated with charts and graphs, softbound, a 10x8 inch side-stapled textblock under a printed cover leaf. Staples a little rusted and one is crooked, cover bears a corner-crease and owner's name twice ("Maj Brewer"), and is mildly abraded and toned; find a couple in inked marginal comments within but a good copy. Special Text 3-155. Not so hush hush as to have a distribution list. Problems addressed are related to fallout, i.e., radioactive contamination, not to blast and thermal effects. Familiarizes reader with instruments that measure intensity and predict variations: "Influence of particle size and rate of fall on particle distribution.. Prestrike prediction (steps). Poststrike prediction (steps)." Using predictions, how to calculate these. Dose predictions. Height of burst, cloud radius, tropopause; enormously detailed. Here's a mystery line: "The poststrike prediction for an enemy stirike follows the same sequence as the prestrike prediction for a friendly stike" --friendly strike? possibly for frontline outfits close to bursts aimed at enemies. We also note that prestrike predictions are of a much more limited distribution than post.
