Cloth has minor light stains, and worn corners and spine ends (top of spine missing about 1/2"). Paper spine label has chipped edges. This is the first edition listing Emory incorrectly as "Lieut. Col." and page 454 incorrectly numbered 754. Text pages generally show light foxing while plates are on better better with foxing ranging from none to very light. The 27"x20" fold-out map of the Territory of New Mexico is in very good minus condition with some extra crease lines from mis-folding and a couple of small edge tears in the margins. The 13"x24" map / sketch of the route of Cook is in very good condition with one corner crease and no tears. Emory's report contains 40 plates illustrating geographic features, structures, Indian tribes, and flora / fauna of the territory. Albert report on his New Mexico expedition contains an additional 23 plates primarily of flora and fauna. Inscribed "Hon. D. T. Jones with respects of S. Cole". ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 614 pages .
