Washington, D.C.: Wendell and Van Benthuysen. Very Good. 1848. First Edition. Hardcover. 30th Congress Executive No. 7, or the true first Senate edition, which was ordered in December 1847. Emory's report from the 1846-1847 topographical expedition across the southwest, known for its maps and descriptions of the landscapes, flora and fauna, and people of the region. The text and maps were to become important resources in the development and exploration of the region. Lithography by Weber, who is considered by some to be the superior lithographer for this title. Lithographs are hand-tinted, which is extremely unusual for this title (possibly tinted later?). A few later printings had tinted plates in the Abert report, but were presentation copies and signed by Abert. This edition is complete, with folding map, both housed in a slipcase. Some mild foxing to pages, edges of text block a bit soiled. Map is curled and in some places torn at edges or creases. Modern brown cloth binding shows little wear. Wagner-Camp 148:1.; Book; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall .
