1672 Moscardo Museum of Curiosities Illustrated Oddities Archaeology Verona RARE

An impressive and highly desirable 1672 edition of Lodovico Moscardo's catalog of his 'Wunderkammer', or Cabinet of Curiosities. Many scientists and archaeologists had such exhibits but Moscardo's was of note. He published a book describing and outlining the contents of this museum which contained not only works of art, but specimens of antiquity such as weapons, coins, clocks, instruments, fossils and shells, pottery and jewelry, gems and stones, and minerals found all around the world. According to Findlen,

"the catalogues of 17th-century collections such as those of Veronese noble Ludovico Moscardo were all models of wit and persuasions; dwarfs, chameleons, birds of paradise, and abnormal trees formed by nature happily coexisted alongside mathematical instruments."

This fine 1672 edition features a myriad of impressive illustrations throughout, printed in Verona – the home of Moscardo's 17th-century museum.

An exceedingly rare and valuable 1824 edition of William Parry's personal account from his second voyage to the Northwest Passage. He was one of the first explorers to reach the North Pole, setting the record for the furthest north any human had reached! Parry recounts his interactions with Eskimos, navigations through fog and ice, viewing meteorological phenomena including the Aurora Borealis, and discovering new birds and plants.

The Arctic Bibliography says of this work:
"Abstracts from the author's journals of his three voyages to the Canadian arctic waters; of his attempt to reach the North Pole and his account of the Eskimos."
