About This Item
New York: St. Martin's Press, 2002. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The fourth novel in the award-winning Hamilton's mystery series featuring private detective Alex McKnight. Based in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, on the eve of McKnight's 49th birthday, depressed over his failed marriage, failed baseball and law enforcement careers, McKnight agrees to go to a poker game at a posh house near the lakefront. The game is interrupted by masked and armed ropbbers. This angers McKnight enough to investigate and he discovers the robbery also involves murder and revenge and a wild boat ride on Lake Superior. First edition, first printing (as stated, with complete numberline). About 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches, 259 pages in black paper-covered boards with silver lettering on spine. Basically black dustjacket shows graphic of lake at sundown with title and author in silver lettering on front panel, white lettering on spine. Back panel contains blurbs of praise for each of Hamilton's earlier books. Boards and text show slight spine lean, touch of soiling on text edges, lightly bumped spine ends and lower corners. O/w book is clean, complete and unmarked. No tears, no creasing or dogeared corners, no scratches or other noticeable damage or flaws. Not remaindered, not ex-library. Dustjacket shows light creasing and edgewear but no tears or other damage or flaws. A very decent copy of this McKnight story.
