The text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs and photographic reproductions of documents. The story of the Hertzberg family, from 1886, through the early part of the 20th century, Second World War and the Holocaust and eventual emigration to Australia. Leopold Hertzberg and his wife Kate Mendels kept diaries and journals, and, it is from these that the story is garnered, and, before his immigration to Australia Leopold had suffered through Kristallnacht in 1938 and had been incarcerated in Buchenwald concentration camp; and, after his release gathered his family close and moved to Australia.
