About This Item
New York: F-R Publishing Corporation, 1940. Paperback. 4to. Stiff color wrappers. 68pp. Illustrations, line drawings, advertisements (some color). Near fine. Quite bold and bright and entirely free of edge tears. Tight and attractive copy (Volume XV, Number 52) of the famed weekly begun in 1925. Superb front wrapper art by the Russian-born American illustrator Constantin Alajalov (1900-87), the only artist to paint covers for both "The New Yorker" and "The Saturday Evening Post," best remembered for his famed cubist-style watercolor front covers. Scene here depicts the packed lobby of a theater, the foreground crammed with smiling social elite and overflowing staircase in background trying to squeeze in. An exceptional condition copy with killer graphics.
