This copy is complete despite the jump in pagination after page 107 ; it corresponds with that in the British Library. Internally very good subject to moderate browning, some fraying to the fep and fairly inoffensive evidence of moisture to the edges of the first few leaves. Hinges cracked although binding still holding. Cover, which looks to be contemporary, rather worn. The boards scuffed with wear to the edges and corners. The ornate spine has significant wear to both extremities. Scans available.

Paris: Michel David, 1711. Octavo, [6], 536, [8] pages. Frontispiece, five leaves of folding plates. Second printing of the First Edition. Michel David issued the title originally in 1710. A compilation of two seventeenth century works by Nicolas de Bonnefons, here issued under a royal privilege granted to Louis Liger, sieur d'Auxerre (1658-1717). The work is divided into four books, the first three concerning cooking, the fourth dealing with gardening, and with an additional brief treatise on hunting and fishing. Liger's compilation of de Bonnefons' work continued to be revised and reissued after his death and well into the eighteenth century. And rightly so. De Bonnefons' work recognizes the primacy of excellent ingredients. The final section is considered to be the first work on the kitchen garden. John Evelyn, who translated the work in 1658, called it "the first and best work of that kind that introduced the use of the olitorie garden to any purpose." Bion (ca. 1652-1733) was a Paris-based cosmographer and maker of mathematical and astronomical instruments, holding the title of "king's engineer for mathematical instruments" under Louis XIV (DSB II, pp. 132-1330). Original end papers are preserved but worn at the edges. Two names are written in a contemporary hand at the top of the title page (1 name is crossed out). Another name (also crossed out) is inscribed beneath the imprint; a small shelf number is written in the upper right corner. Pages are generally clean with occasional minor soiling and spotting. London : Simpkin & Marshall, 1825 Volumes I - VII of the 1st edition of Maund's Botanic Garden ranging in date from 1825 to 1836 (Vol VII is undated) with 167 of 168 fine hand coloured plates. It was originally issued in parts and these volumes are in what looks like an original publisher's cloth binding which is worn and disintegrating with some poor stitching, so this set has been priced to take account of rebinding costs. The book is in a square octavo format and text pages are printed on one side only. The contents are clean and bright with beautiful colouring on the plates (faults are listed in the detailed description below). There is some offsetting where particularly strong colour has been applied and shows through to the back of the plates. All have a decorative title page and an additional title page.
