A complete set of three volumes : The sole printings published by The Royal College of Arts between 1925 and 1927. Vol. 1) Gallimaufry : June 1925. With the original pictorial wrappers designed by Eric Ravilious. Vol. 2) The Mandrake : May 1926. With the original pictorial wrappers designed by Edward Bawden. One of only two hundred copies issued. Vol. 3) The Second Mandrake : May 1927. With the original pictorial wrappers. One of only two hundred copies issued. All three volumes are in Very Good condition : The covers are a little spotted, soiled, creased and slightly frayed at the edges. A little loss at the upper corners of the front cover of the third volume. All covers are detached from the contents but come together and hold well in the removable Mylar archival covers. Internally some rusting to the staples and some spotting and toning throughout to the page edges, less so to volumes 2 and 3. A penned previous owner's name to the upper cover of volumes 2 and 3. A small stamped 'Discard' to the first page of each volume. Illustrations by Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Enid Marx and others with some being hand-coloured including three by Bawden. The volumes have not undergone any restoration or repairs. A very early complete set of the annual publication by The Royal College of Arts with illustrations by Bawden and Ravilious displaying their talents whilst in their early 20's ! Due to their fragility and extreme scarcity, complete sets very rarely turn up on the open market. The first that we have handled. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
