Salt Lake City: Published By the Author, 1973. Quarto. 515 pages. Color map of New Jersey in 1793, a color engraving :"The Recruiting Sergeant". This book is a result of the transfer of more than 300 cubic feet of military records from the colonial wars to World War I in New Jersey. While microfilming them, the author also discovered a group of records relating to the 1793 State Militia. Since these records were a census of every free, white, and able bodied male between the ages of eighteen and forty-five in the state, they form an invaluable record. The lists by township are included as they first appeared. The State Archivist, Kenneth W. Richards says his work should provided an essential reference both in terms of the early history of the state and for genealogists. Bound in full leather like cloth lettered in gilt. A near fine copy.
