About This Item
New York: The MacMillan Company. MCMII (1902) 335 pp plus book ads. Book VG. Written and illustrated by Clifton Johnson, this book is primarily a study of the rural aspects of national life. In part, the author's introductory note reads ; " Wherever I go the characteristic and picturesque phases of the rural farm environment always appeal strongly to me, and in what I have written I have tried to convey to others the same interest I have felt, and at the same time have endeavored to give a clear and truthful impression of the reality." The text is profusely illustrated with the author's b/w photographs. The contents offer fourteen chapters - a sampling - "Midwinter in Valley Forge," "In The Adirondacks," " A Jaunt on Long Island," " Down In Maine," ' Dwellers Among The Catskills," and " Cape Cod Folks," etc. Decorated front endpapers - small bookplate on fep. Front hinge started. Mild separation occurs in a numbers of places throughout text but all is firmly held with natural stitching. Untrimmed fore edge. Top edge gilt - still nice and bright. The spine shows no fade and gilt lettering is also bright. Pictorial green cloth boards. Boards show corner-tip wear. This is overall a nice copy. . First Edition. Country Living United States - Rural Valley Forge Adirondacks Long Island Maine Cape Cod. Catalogs: Country Living/Homesteading.
