Hardcover. 493p., facsimile reprint from the 1705 edition, Fold out map at facsimile title page, illustrations (we count 7 black and white plates with a total of 48 drawings which matches up with what we see on a photocopied PDF on line). brown boards, endpapers show general foxing and offset browning. Pages somewhat browned and soiled, foxing along all the edges, cover boards and edges showing wear, else good readable copy.

Description:
printed for J Knapton et al, 1705. Book. Poor. hardback. 1st Edition. hardback, octavo, first printed in English, from the Dutch. boards present but detached, all present but several leaves loose, a 1704 bookplate of John Hanbury of Pontpoole, Monmouthshire to the verso of the title page. Pencilled details of a later owner (the former DC of Cape Coast Castle) to the front pastedown and with some marginal annotation in the same hand, browning to some parts. Engraved folding map by Herrman Moll, strengthened to the verso of the leading edge, seven plates as called for. First published in Dutch in 1704, and written by the Chief Factor for the Dutch at the fortress of Sao Jorge da Mina. The plates depict views of the many coastal fortresses, and also of animals and birds of the area. This is one of two variants published in 1705, with the same pagination but slightly different imprints. [viii], 493 + [19] pp.
