During World War II, Nell Dorr took her daughters and grandchildren to New Hampshire where they were joined by the children's book author and illustrator, Tasha Tudor, and her children. The work in this book was made at that time. The images and text are a "prose poem in praise of motherhood and of the home where God is honored and the simple events of the day are glorified by the gift of grace." In another sense, the images are a look at how the women and children of a certain class lived without their men during the war. Produced in memory of and dedicated to one of Dorr's daughters, who died the year of publication. Photographs by Nell Dorr; text by Tasha Tudor. Unpaginated; gravure-printed b&w photographic plates throughout; 7.25 x 8.5 inches.
