Berkeley, California: Heyday Books, 2008. First Edition. Hardcover. Like New. 4to 11" - 13" tall. Stephen J. Joseph. A superior copy inside and out, being a sterling condition hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Bonnie J. Gisel and illustrator Stephen J. Joseph have combined with Heyday Books to produce a stellar condition volume of 247 indexed pages. Extremely handsome olive-drab color cloth covers, with white lettering to cover and spine, and with an inset / cut-out illustration to die for. Foreword by David Rains Wallace, then a series of Acknowledgments, then an Introduction, "Pure as a Plant," followed by five chapters, tracking John Muir from childhood in Scotland and Wisconsin to an adult life in Alaska. The images are to die for. Somewhat unusually, there is an offset label on rear panel, not at all abraded, and with an additional image. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. xxx + 247 pp. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
