In full calf bindings with the gilt coat of arms of John, Earl of Clare, to the boards. Spines with gilt lined raised bands and title and volume labels. Gilt decoration to inner board edges. Endpapers and page edges marbled. There is wear to spine joints, particularly at the front, where there are early signs of splitting although the volumes are currently sound. Corners lightly turned and with wear. Light wear to edges. Contents - Vol I: initial blank; black and white frontispiece; title; advertisement; text 351pp with one black and white plate. The preliminaries and end leaves are spotty as are both the plates - the in text plate has offset to preceding and following text pages. There is some marking to the side of pp 227/228 and an old top corner turn at p 299. Vol II: initial blank; colour frontispiece; title; text pp 1-160 with black and white plate; half title; pp 162-195; observations - with half titles and text pp 307-333; poems 337-346; index 347-364. There is general spotting and offsetting from plates but the text is in very good clean condition.
