Published in Faden's New General Atlas, 1811, 1794. 28" x 21"- 71.1 x 53.3 cm. Copper engraved map with old hand colouring. Offsetting to the North Sea, two short tears to right margin extending just past neatline, dampstain to lower margin, on the whole very good.

William Faden was a prominent Scottish mapmaker (he dropped the "Mac" from his name when he moved to London), Royal Geographer to King George III and publisher during the late 19th and early 19th Centuries. He produced one of the finest set of maps during the American Revolution, as well as producing detailed charts from around the world.

On 29 December 1938, Churchill wrote to his wife regarding his initial draft about this part of his history: "I have just finished writing about Joan of Arc. I think she is the winner in the whole of French history. The leading women of these days were more forceful and remarkable than the men." Profusely illustrated, this slim volume contains 17 illustrations by the distinguished artist Lauren Ford. This is the author's revised edition, Agapida Edition, published in 1893. 2 volumes Beautiful books in light cream colored leather binding , high quality deckled pages and lovely Moorish gilt designs on the cover and spine. Each page is framed with Moorish scroll work. The photos throughout the books are covered with glassine paper. There is some darkening, due to age, along the beveled edges of the covers and the first few pages of vo. 1. Also an inscription and signature, dated 1937 on the third flyleaf page of vol. 1.. Otherwise, the book is in fine - near new condition.
