Paperback / softback. New. Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) was appointed Governor of Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) in 1837, but quickly clashed with colonial officials and free settlers. Recalled in 1843, Franklin worked hard to regain his reputation. He wrote this pamphlet, completed in 1845, to defend himself against the misrepresentations of others.

Hobart: Platypus Publications. 1967. #500 of 750 copies. Facsimile reprint. 158pp. Canvas cloth, title lettering on upper board, a little light flecking. A good clean copy. ***Sir John's account of his dispute with his former Colonial Secretary, John Montagu. The original was privately issued in a small edition and is very scarce. Each copy bears a presentation inscription 'By Order of Sir John Franklin' on the title page - this facsimile used the copy of R.J. Murchison Esq. .
