Folio. 347 pages, illustrated by Kurt Winkler and Charles Brun with 148 color uniform plates of Napoleon's army from the remarkable illustrations begun in Saxony during the summer armistice of 1813. The 1813 campaign ended Napoleon's hopes of maintaining an empire outside of France's borders. He had more than 500,000 but the Allied armies had 700,000. At the battle of Leipzig he had 200,000 men versus the Allies' 350,000 soldiers. The author Alfred Umhey was the curator of the German Army Museum. Each of the rich colour illustrations has a facing page of details on the troops and where they were serving in 1813. Generals, voltigeurs, dragoons, chasseur a chevalh. A fine copy bound in a fine maroon leather decorated in gilt, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers and housed within its original shipping box.
