Paris: Sovremennyi︠a︡ zapiski, 1929. 370p., paperback, pages uncut, clerical edges worn, bottom of spine panel has beginning of a vertical split. Title page has stamp indicating the book was rejected as a duplicate by the LOC. Collection of essays on essays on Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Blaise Pascal, Descartes, Plotinus and Spinoza by the Russian existentialist, then living in exile in France. The work is known in English as "In Job's Balances.
