He grew up in a family with a 250-year tradition of traveling circuses. He was a clown, a handyman, a ticket seller, anything and everything that occasion might demand. From modest beginnings in his father's troupe, Jimmy and his brother Dicky built the greatest circuses in Europe. He went to Africa for lions and to Ceylon for elephants. He went to the Continent to acquire new acts. He even found time to fly in the RAF during WWII. But the circus was not enough for him -- he sold his share to his brother and went out on his own. He provided and trained pets and circus animals for Walt Disney and other movie makers, and originated safari parks in England.
