New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1958. First Edition. Octavo. 236pp., (1)pp. bibliographical-index, (2)pp. note on the author and a note on the printing, illustrated by photographs. Dard Hunter came from a family of printers and publishers. He was influenced by the work of William Morris and the Kelmscott Press. He became associated with Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft Shop. He went to school in Europe and finally found his passion in the history and making of hand-made paper. Each copy of this book includes one piece of paper which Hunter made by hand and one piece of Chinese spirit-paper which he collected. A fine copy bound in brown cloth centrally stamped in gilt over blue, spine lettering gilt over blue. in a fine unclipped dust jacket printed in red and black.
