Illustrated with 61 illustrations from photographs by the Author and Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Wilson, and three maps. 16pp of publishers adverts at end. A few pages with some mild foxing but overall a very good copy bound in recent full red morocco leather binding. Spine with raised bands, ruled in gilt. Twin dark green labels, gilt. Compartments ruled and decorated with rampant lion devices in gilt. All edges gilt. Original publishers red cloth spine and front board bound in at the rear.

Hodder and Stoughton. London. 1913. FIRST EDITION. 2 Large 8vo volumes. (10.2 x 8 inches). Illustrated with 2 maps, 8 colour plates and 260 illustrations from mono photographs by the Author. Some minor foxing to the blank reverse of the portrait frontis in volume one otherwise a bright and clean copy throughout. In the publishers dark blue cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines. Front panels with circular device in gilt, green, blue and silver with four illustrations alongside, all in gilt and within a shield border. In the rare original dustwrappers with dark blue lettering to spine and front panels with cut out holes on the front panels to show the circular emblem. Some very minor chipping to the edges of the wrapper for volume one, volume two's wrapper with a large thumb sized area of loss to the front panel and a little more chipping to the extremities. Overall a lovely tidy set of books kept in wonderful condition by the still very good original publishers dustwrappers.

Programme for the Churchill: What the papers say exhibition of 1997, and prospectus for the Rylands Research Institute are both hard bound, complete with colour covers bound in, in light blue half cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines and marbled paper on the boards. These both measure 11.8 x 8.6 inches. Farnie Biography of Rylands is bound in half red cloth with marbled paper on boards and gilt lettering on the spine and measures 9.9 x 6.3 inches. (6.8 x 4.4 inches). vii, 112pp. A very good clean copy in a fine late nineteenth or early twentieth century arts and crafts style leather binding of full red morocco. Spine with decorative floral design in gilt and two curved-edged brown onlay labels, lettered and bordered in gilt. Front board with elaborate gilt floral design within a double ruled border. Brown onlay panel, lettered in gilt, and onlaid bow and several small leaves in green leather. Board edges with thick and thin gilt ruled cross lines. Turn ins decorated with gilt flowers to the outer corners. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. The first English edition, published the same year as the original Brussels edition. The binding is not signed but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder. A beautiful and skilfully executed binding.

Dobson and Co. London. 1820. FIRST DOBSON EDITION. 8vo. [2], [11]-194, [492] pages. There is an error in the pagination: 44-73 are omitted in the page numbering but the text is complete. Illustrated with engraved portraits of Queen Caroline (frontispiece) and Bergami, and a large hand coloured folding plate showing a depiction of the Lords at the trial with a legend of the individuals present. One page with a small hole to the middle of the leaf and some offsetting to the two portrait engravings otherwise a very good copy in an attractive early fine leather binding of full mid brown calf. Both boards elaborately decorated with blind tooled multiple oval design panel within twelve ruled line border. An arc and star gilt roll has been tooled around the outside of the boards. Spine with four wide raised bands, each with gilt decorations. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Board edge corners with gilt ruled lines. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled.
