Part one of the book is a detailed look at the growth and structure of French Canada. Part two is principally concerned with event is New York, New England and Virginia. Part three covers the loss of New Amsterdam to the English, the conflict between the Swedish colony on the Delaware and the English. Part four returns to Canada and the consolidation of French power there. The author also follows the expeditions down the Mississippi.
