Oldenburg im Grossherzogtum: Gerhard Stalling, [1911]., [1911].. Good. - Quarto [approximately 11 inches high by 8 inches wide] tan cloth backed with cream parchment, titled in gilt on the front cover & spine and profusely decorated & illustrated in gilt on the cover. The top edge is gilt. The binding is rubbed with a stain to the rear cover. The head of the spine is chipped. Title, iv & 448 pages plus 449 pages of music staves, with a tan silk bookmark. Profusely illustrated with a color frontispiece with a tissue guard, numerous black-and-white textual & fulll-page illustrations and plates in color and black & white, some of them folding and some mounted on brown paper, The front hinge is just starting. Good.
A book on music and musicians in caricature and satire: a cultural history of music seen through a distorting mirror.
