About This Item
New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1930. First Edition. Debut novel by Falkner (1900-1977), a New York newspaper man, centered around the murder of a Broadway actress. "In the shadowed quiet of West End Avenue, around the corner from Broadway, a hand with a knife reached the throat of a gay young actress. Downstairs in the salon, rich with the gauds and treasures of eighteenth century Paris, were the remains of a party - empty glasses, overflowing ash trays. Upstairs a body on the floor. Was it man or woman who killed her? Actress or gambler?" (from front flap). Uncommon; OCLC notes a scant 16 holdings. Hubin, p.136. First Printing. Octavo (19.25cm); green cloth, with titles stamped in black on spine and front cover; green topstain; dustjacket; [ii],236,[2]pp. Fine in a Very Good+ dustjacket, unclipped (priced $2.00), lighlty edgeworn, with shallow loss to crown, and a few tiny nicks and tears.
