Description:
Pocket 1296, 2nd printing mass market paperback. Packaged here to look like a murder mystery, this is actually an English language translation of a French science fiction novel. Originally titled (in English) You Shall Know Them (1953). A population of unusually intelligent apes is discovered, and there are disputes about whether they are human or not. It seems they can be impregnated by either humans or apes. A scientist kills a baby he has fathered, to force a court to determine if he has committed murder or animal cruelty. Also published as Borderline (1954), and adapted as the movie Skullduggery (1970).
