Lima: Instituto de Arte Peruano Museo Nacional, 1938. Paperback. 40p. (text), 72 leaves (plates on coated alkaline paperstock), tied with strong thread, which is holding nicely. Here's an unusual feature: an early leaf of thick paper bears actual swatches of color as used by the prehistoric artists. Softbound in 9.5x7 inch printed wraps. Spine panel is rough with tears and chips, and we have secured the cover wrap with archival-grade paste. Covers and initial and terminal pages are heavily foxed. We see no other problems, this is a complete, handleable, fair-to-good copy. Publicaciones del Museo Nacional de Lima [Peru]. Find the color-sample leaf inserted between pp.4 and 5, accompanied by text. Original hues were from highly saturated pigment earths: blanco, negro, ocre amarillo, ocre rojo, rojo indio, plomo. Unsure if the hand-brushed museum samples are also the actual clays.
