This edition of Le Morte DArthur is limited to 350 copies on Dutch Hand Made paper and 1500 ordinary copies (of which this is one), after printing which the type has been distributed. Two matching volumes (Vol 1 1893, Vol 2 1894). Vol 1: xc, 455pp plus illustrations; Vol 2: vii, 456 - 990pp plus illustrations. Cloth boards with lavish gilt decoration to upper board and spine, gilt publisher's motif to lower boards. Top edge gilt. Iconic images by Beardsley. Vol 1 has 12 illustrations (including frontis), Vol 2 has 8 illustrations (including frontis) of these 5 are double-page. Numerous line drawings and decorations throughout the text. Very good condition with even wear to both volumes. Boards generally lightly soiled. Gilt bright. Some very slight ruckling to the large section of gilt at the lower reaches of the upper board of Vol 1. Both spines slightly darkened but equally so. Flamboyant signature of previous owner to both ffeps plus printed bookplate to pastedown of Vol1. Some light spotting and toning to prelims and to to frontispiece tissue guards in both volumes. Main body of each volume clean and virtually free of spotting, a few light marks. Silk page marker lost to Vol 1. Light dust soiling to page edges.

Spine re-backed with the original spine laid down and touched up in a couple of spots. Front board touched up in a couple of places as well and the upper corners repaired. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Board edges bevelled. Bookplate removal stain to the paste-down endpaper. Contents clean and the binding tight and square. Illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley. Although re-backed, still a nice copy, nice re-backing and well-done touch-ups, expertly done.
